Exam Preparation Classes
Each year Fintan Murphy, chair of the string specialist panel for the AMEB and examiner, gives several exam preparation classes covering performance feedback, repertoire, technical requirements, sight reading and general knowledge.
Held before major exam periods, these classes are free for MSE members and $25 for non-members. Please email us at msejmse@hotmail.com for 2018 details.
Chamber Music Concerts:
To start the year all members are grouped into smaller ensembles for experience playing in unconducted duets, trios, quartets, quintets, sextets and even octets.
Benchmark Concerts
These mid-year concerts were started with seed funding from the Myer Foundation to offer professional solo opportunities to leading young Australian string players. These opportunities are now offered to alumni, including international alumni.
Concerto Concerts
Our final concert of the year in which members have the opportunity to perform a concerto with the ensemble. This is a great way young performers to build confidence and enhance their solo skills.
Tours
The MSE tours overseas, usually each two to three years. Touring is a magical time when music is performed, lasting friendships made and an insight into other cultures is gained. Tours visit at least 3 cities and are a great opportunity to perform with the worlds leading youth orchestras, attend Masterclasses with noted players and teachers. Students are often billeted with local musical families. They also have the opportunity for sightseeing and visiting significant musical sights and experience performances.
Generally, an MSE tour involves secondary and tertiary students, as well as parents who wish to accompany the tour. Recent tours have taken MSE to Singapore/ Kuala Lumpur/Hong Kong, Germany, New Zealand, Darwin, Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy. Our 2018 tour will take us to Zurich, Stuttgart, Munich, Salzberg & Vienna.
Quartet and Orchestra Hire
